Charity and community service are an important part of what we do here at Alpha Chi Rho. We feel that it is our duty as a fraternity to give back to the community what it has given to us. Throughout the year we take pride in the various events we organize and partake in that demonstrate our strong belief in the value of philanthropy.
Recently in the Community:
Brothers participate in events like Worcester City Cleanup, The Walk to Cure Cancer, Light the Night Leukemia Walk, Penny Wars, American Red Cross Blood Donation, Destination: Imagination, Habitat For Humanity (Worcester), Community Harvest Project, Ronald McDonald House Foundation, Worcester County Autism Center We also had a fund raising event called Maximum AXPosure to raise money for one of out brothers family who was captured in Iraq and whose family went bankrupt. Proceeds from our charity events go to benefit our National philanthropies: Feed the Children, Habitat For Humanity, The American Cancer Society, Autism Society of America

In Past Events:
On October 2, the brothers of the Delta Sigma Phi chapter joined nearly 400 other participants at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night" walk at Assumption. During the month of September, we raised over $800 leading up to the event. The thirty-one undergraduate brothers who walked were part of "Carla's Champions", a team founded by Delta Sigma Phi graduate brother Jeff Modderno, whose wife Carla died earlier this year after a long battle with leukemia. In part due to the contributions of AXP, "Carla's Champions" was the top team in terms of both money raised and walkers participating at the event. Jeff's goal was to raise $5,000 and form a team of 20 people, but thanks in large part to undergraduates and alumni, Carla's Champions raised $15,500 and had 98 walkers, in both cases the highest of any team at the event. Jeff said that he was truly overwhelmed by the level of support from Crow. AXP Alum Mike Henry said "as a graduate and friend of Carla's I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the undergraduate brothers of the Fraternity. Most had never met Carla or Jeff yet they sacrificed their time for this cause. Their efforts showed what the bonds of brotherhood are truly about and reaffirmed why I have remained active within the Fraternity." Overall, Carla's Champions has collected over $30,000 for cancer research since its founding. To do their part, the members of the chapter spent the better part of the month of September fundraising in the WPI Campus Center. Our original goal was to raise $500, but thanks to the generosity of the WPI community, we raised $800. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was founded in 1949 and has collected over $424 million for blood cancer research. The society's website is http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/ and the Carla's Champions website is http://www.carlaschampions.com.

In the Spring of 2004, WPI students help build a new playground for Flagg Street Elementary School. A group of our brothers volunteered several hours on a Saturday building a new playground for Worcester children to enjoy. This event was a success as everyone worked well together to benefit the Worcester community.
Philanthropy is always present in the spirit of the Brotherhood here at Alpha Chi Rho. Our dedication to community service and charity brings enjoyment and pride to our organization.
